China's tourism and insurance agencies have launched a campaign to raise public awareness towards the need for travel insurance and to encourage insurance firms to sell travel policies, People’s Daily reported.   The China National Tourism Administration hoped that the travel and insurance sectors will be able to offer comprehensive and competitive policies for the ever-increasing number of Chinese tourists by 2010.   The number of Chinese tourists going aboard has grown significantly from 4250000 in 1995 to 9000000 in 2000. It is expected to climb to 1 million by 2020.   The official agency and the China Insurance Regulatory Commission jointly host the campaign not only to ensure tourists are offered more completed policies with improved services but also to raise tourists’ awareness of the importance of travel insurance.   In the next five years, while insurance companies would work on improving accident policies and developing new policies, compensation levels would also be raised in case of accidents.
