August 30 – Italian handbag retailer Furla said it plans to open 100 stores in China in 5 years, making the country its largest market. The first 100 stores will be located in tier-1 and tier-2 cities.

August 28 – Gap (NYSE: GPS) opened its first store in Qingdao, Shandong province. It hopes to open 35 stores in China in 2013 and operate 80 stores in the country by the end of the year, up from 61 at present, Linkshop.com.cn reported. The American clothing retailer also plans to open its first Old Navy store in Shanghai.

August 28 – Carrefour opened a store in Dazhu, Sichuan province. It is the French retailer's 23rd store in Sichuan and 221st store in China.

August 28 – Uniqlo said it plans to open 1,000 stores in China in the years to come, with a focus on tier-2 and tier-3 cities. It is going to open its 11th global flagship store – also its largest in the world – in Shanghai in September. The Japanese clothing retailer was operating 202 stores in 48 Chinese cities as of May 31, 2013.

August 28 – Ikea will open its second store in Beijing in November. The Swedish home improvement retailer currently operates 14 stores in China, including 3 in Shanghai and 11 in other major cities.

August 27 – China Resources Vanguard, one of the biggest supermarket chains in southern China, said it plans to open 50 stores in Guangzhou, Guangdong province in 2013, Linkshop.com.cn reported.

August 26 – Staple food prices rose in mid August, the National Bureau of Statistics said. Prices of most vegetables and meat went up from early August except for soybean oil, whose price fell 0.8% from early August.

August 26 – Apple Inc (Nasdaq: AAPL) plans to open its 4th retail store in Shanghai in early October. The tech giant currently operates 11 stores in China, including 3 in Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong each, and 1 in Chengdu and 1 in Shenzhen.

August 26 – McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) revenue from Guangzhou, Guangdong's provincial capital, account for 40% of the southern China region and 18% of China's total, Winshang.com reported. The fast food giant has opened over 280 restaurants in Guangzhou over the past 20 years and expects to operate 300 in the city by the end of 2013.

August 22 – Decathlon opened 3 stores in Shenyang, Liaoning's provincial capital. The French sportswear and equipment retailer said it plans to open 60 stores in the 3 northeast provinces in the years to come.
