September 26 – The iPhone 5s represented 91% of the new iPhone sales in China during the first 3 days of release, Caixin reported.

September 26 – Metro opened its 4th store in Guangzhou, Guangdong's provincial capital, Linkshop.com.cn reported. The German retailer said it plans to open 10 stores in China annually in the years to come. Its revenue from the Chinese market was 1.89 billion euros in 2012.

September 26 – Lawson, Japan's second largest convenience store chain, said it has opened 378 stores in China, Yicai.com reported. Most of its stores are in Shanghai, Beijing, Dalian and Chongqing.

September 26 – H&M opened its first store in Inner Mongolia in its capital Hohhot, Linkshop.com.cn reported. The Swedish fashion retailer was operating over 140 stores in China as at the end of July 2013, including 18 in Shanghai, 14 in Beijing and 12 in Hong Kong.

September 25 – Dicos, a Chinese fried chicken chain, said it has opened more than 2,000 restaurants in China as at the end of August 2013. Exceeding the number of McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) restaurants in China, Dicos represent 24.6% of all fast food restaurants in the country. Dicos operates only a total of 7 stores in Shanghai and Beijing due to fierce competition with foreign brands there; the majority of its restaurants are in tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

September 24 – China's top 100 retailers saw their combined revenue rise 8.8% year on year in August, compared with 9.7% in July, according to CNCIC data. The slowdown was due to slower growth of jewelry (11% year on year, the slowest monthly growth this year), high temperatures that kept consumers at home and discounts at online shops.

September 24 – Inland tier-2 cities will deliver strong growth in retail sales outperforming coastal cities in the coming National Day holiday, Credit Suisse predicted in its China Retail Sector report. Retail sales rose 15% from a year earlier during the last National Day break, the slowest pace since 2006.

September 23 – RT-Mart, a leading Chinese hypermarket chain by Sun Art Retail (HKG: 6808), will now sell luxury goods online. RT-Mart has partnered with Taiwan External Trade Development Council for the online luxury business.

September 23 – Italian women fashion retailer Miu Miu opened a stunning new store in Shanghai, Inside Retail Asia reported. The 2-story building sells luxury bags, footwear and jewelry.

September 22 – The Hong Kong government said it might lift the ban on baby formula exports to the mainland in October if a pressure test finds supply is normal in the city, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported. The Hong Kong government imposed restrictions earlier this year on the amount of milk powder people can carry out of the city as local supply was strained after mainlanders flocked to the city to buy baby formula following repeated food safety scandals.
