China and EU seek to deepen ties
China seeked to advance the all-round strategic partnership with the European Union, said China President Hu Jintao, reported by People’s Daily.
Wu told European Parliament President Josep Borrell Fontelles in a meeting on Thursday that “China hopes to enhance political exchanges and strategic cooperation with the EU so as to boost China-EU relations to a new level.”
Improved Sino-European relations served the common interests of their citizens while maintaining world peace and common development, Wu added.
Fontelles, on an official goodwill visit from July 8 to July 15, reiterated the European Union's adherence to the one-China policy with regard to Taiwan during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing. Fontelles was the first European Parliament president to visit China in 13 years. During his China tour, Fontelles visited Tibet Autonomous Region in southwest China.
