China and Japan plan to bolster aviation links

China and Japan plans an accord to increase passenger flights by 20% and double cargo volume, reported the Financial Times. Japan’s transport Minister and China’s Vice-president of Civil Aviation Authority will meet in Beijing on Thursday.   Under the planned agreement, the two sides would increase the passenger flight quota from weekly 540 and boost the numbers of connected cities. Japanese airline currently fly between seven Japanese and 14 Chinese cities, cites the newspaper.   Japan is supposed to allocate more landing spots at Narita Tokyo to aid the negotiations. The 3-year deadlock has hampered efforts by the two major Japanese carriers, Japan Airlines and All Nippon Airways, to expand into the Chinese market.   The negotiation lagged as a result of the political tension between the two countries over the years.
