China Construction Bank to establish insurance joint venture
China Construction Bank said it has applied to banking and insurance regulators to create a joint-venture insurance company, The Wall Street Journal reported.
China has been encouraging its banks to enter the insurance business as a means to boost efficiency in the financial-services sector and provide a new avenue for generating profits, said the paper.
The planned insurance company would be another channel for China Construction Bank to use the $9.2 billion it raised from its initial public offering in last October.
