June 26 – Carrefour denied rumors that it planned to sell its business in China as rentals in the country had soared. Instead, the French retailer reiterated it is confident of the Chinese market where it plans to open new stores in another 30 cities.

June 25 – Swedish fashion retailer H&M will open its 6th store in Guangzhou and its 7th store in Chengdu in two days, taking the number of all its stores in China to 135.

June 25 – British retailer Superdry plans to open an e-commerce site in China within a year to test its appeal. The brand operates 17 franchise stores and 49 concession stores in Asia, but not yet in China. Its offers apparel, footwear and accessories.

June 24 – Over 100,000 businesses have offered deal-of-the-day coupons at Dianping.com, China's most popular review and coupon site, from 2010 through 2013 in 36 largest cities. The coupons were estimated to have saved shoppers a total of 11 billion yuan during the 3 years. Shanghai shoppers topped the coupon purchasing rankings, with a monthly consumption of 274 yuan per person during the period.

June 21 – Swiss watch brand Jaquet Droz has opened its first China store in Shanghai. Established in 1738, Jaquet Droz is positioned within the prestige and luxury segment of the Swatch.

June 21 – Revenue at China's 100 largest retailers rose 11.6% in May from a year earlier; the rate was 5.2 percentage points slower than in April, according to Cncic.org. Jewelry sales were up 28.3% year on year, food sales up 8.7%, home appliance sales up 6.5% and clothing sales up 6.1%.

June 21 – C&A said it is focusing on China's tier-2 and smaller cities, particularly in southwestern and northern China. Only 13 of the Belgium clothing retailer's 50 stores in China are in tier-1 cities.

June 20 – Inter Ikea Centre Group, a joint venture between Inter Ikea Group and Ikea Group, will open its 4th shopping center in Beijing in 2014. The 172,000-square-meter mall will house an Ikea store, a hypermarket, a cinema, restaurants, cafes, electronics stores and sports stores. IICG is currently building 3 other malls in Shanghai, Wuxi and Wuhan.

June 19 – Carrefour said it will set up operations in 30 new Chinese cities in the next 3 years, after opening its first hypermarket in the Inner Mongolia autonomous as part of its plan to penetrate into lower tier cities. It currently more than 220 stores in over 60 cities in China.

June 19 – Apparel sales in China rose 6.6% year on year in May; the growth rate was 5.5 percentage points faster than in April as retailers sped up destocking.

June 19 – I.T. Ltd (HKG: 0999), a Hong Kong-based fashion retailer, plans to invest a total of HK$300 million opening 3 stores in Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjing by the end of July. The new stores will take the total number of I.T. stores in mainland China to 11.
