Power Usage Rises 5.4% Through Jul
China's electricity consumption rose 4.5% year on year to 455.6 billion kW hours in July, the National Energy Administration said. Between January and July, electricity consumption was up 5.4% to 2.83 trillion kW hours, including 58.9 billion kW hours from the primary sector (down 0.4%), 2.1 trillion kW hours from the secondary sector (up 3.6%), 319.3 billion kW hours from the tertiary sector (up 11.9%) and 356.9 billion kW hours from civilians (up 12.5%). A total of 28.92 million kW of power generation capacity have been installed during the first seven months, including 17.9 million kW of coal-fired capacity and six million kW of hydropower capacity.
Shanghai Govt Set to Offer ¥9b Bonds
The Shanghai city government will likely become the first local government in China to issue bonds this year, according to three people familiar with the matter. The Shanghai government is to invite tender next week or by the end of August for issuing ¥8.9 billion worth of bonds that will mature in five or seven years.
