China’s photovoltaic industry is now the world’s largest with an annual capacity of 1,100MW, Wang Wei, head of the China Renewable Energy Office, told an ongoing forum organized by the China Solar Power Photovoltaic Industry Research & Cooperation Alliance. Wang said the domestic photovoltaic sector now has more than 40 material builders, 70 silicon makers, 30 solar cell makers and more than 500 other related companies, the Securities Times reported. Miao Sikai, vice president of DuPont and the president of DuPont Greater China, said that spiralling oil prices and growing energy usage had combined to boost demand for solar power and other alternative energies. DuPont, which has 25 years experience in the sector, is the leading photovoltaic material supplier. Major Chinese players include Wuhan, Hubei province-based Niluo Solar Energy (600885.SH) and Baoding, Hebei province-based Tianwei Baobian Electric (600550.SH).
