China Mobile kicks away Vodafone
China Mobile has become the most valuable listed mobile operator when its market capitalization moved ahead of Vodafone's after days of hectic trading in London and Hong Kong, The Standard reported.
China Mobile has a 40 percent share of Mainland market and overseas expansion plans are expected to be launched.
China Mobile shares closed at 51.50 HK dollars Friday, valuing it at 1.03 trillion HK dollars. Vodafone shares, down about 6 percent in the past week, closed at 1.10, valuing it at 856.96 billion HK dollars. China Mobile has more than 200 million customers while Vodafone has 186 million, although its turnover is still ahead, said the paper.
Vodafone, which for so long has enjoyed the mantle of "the world's largest mobile phone company," has been knocked off its pedestal by a rival set up less than seven years ago.
