The market for online sales in China
doubled from 2003 to 2004, driven by online business expansion, a greater
variety of products, and an increase in China's wired population. Over the
next three years, yearly growth of the consumer base is expected to average
42.3%, reaching a total of 16 million online consumers by 2007.
The total value of online sales volume expanded as well,
from 1.7 billion yuan (US$210 million) in 2003 to 4.5 billion yuan (US$555
million) in 2004. Over the next three years sales volume is expected to grow
87.5% annually, reaching 29.6 billion yuan (US$3.65 billion) by 2007.
