China Telecom loses users to mobile

China Telecom reported a monthly decline in subscribers Thursday after mobile phone operators introduced low fee packages, the Economic Daily reported. According to Norson Telecom Consulting, a Beijing-based IT consulting firm, landline providers are likely to continue to shed customers to mobile competitors as mobile communication costs decrease, meaning China Telecom needs to diversify its business from voice calls into services like broadband and information services.
