Super Girl talent show winner Li Yuchun signed an endorsement contract with Coke, the company confirmed yesterday. National Business Daily reports that Coke signed Li Yuchun because her independent image fits well with the company's current slogan, "For satisfaction, look to yourself," as well as the fact that Li has a high following among young consumers. Li's manager revealed that the contract was signed at the end of 2005, but was not revealed because of complications involving Ministry of Commerce approval. Rumors had circulated in the media claiming that Li's contract was worth 3 million yuan, but her manager denied this, saying that the figure was not to be disclosed.Prior to this, Pepsi signed Korean pop idol Rain to a 50 million yuan contract; signing Li Yuchun is thought to be Coke returning fire in the pop idol wars. Li's Coke commercials will reportedly be produced by a Hong Kong firm, and will begin shooting at the end of the month in Shanghai.
