Copper consumption projected to ease on credit tightening

China’s copper consumption will grow just 8% to 5.13 million tons this year after surging 22% last year to 4.74 million tons, the Shanghai Business Journal reported, citing a projection from Shanghai Maike Dickson Investment Management, a unit of Maike Metal International Group, a leading Chinese metal trader. The trader said its projection took into account the central government’s stringent monetary and credit tightening policies aimed at checking domestic copper demand.
