Dekor sued by Yingbin
Power Dekor has been sued by Yingbin Wood Industry, China
Business News reports. Yingbin, which produces wood flooring, is suing for 5 million yuan (US$617,000),
alleging that Dekor engaged in improper advertising of its "Kährs
three-level wood flooring" product. Dekor, a major producer of laminate
flooring, partnered in March with Kährs Wood Flooring, and in April began
distributing literature claiming that its "three-level wood flooring"
was better resistant to splitting and cracking than what it called
"traditional wood flooring." Though Yingbin wasn't named directly,
the company operates locations in Guangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing,
close to where the flyers were distributed. It claims sales losses of
500,000 square meters at 10 yuan per square meter.
The wood flooring industry is considering
joining together to launch a suit against Dekor for maligning its product, and
for failing to mark its own flooring as "plywood." In its report for
the six months ending on 30 September, Asia Dekor Holdings, Dekor's
Singapore-listed parent company, saw turnover rise 25.5% on the strength of
high demand for laminated floorboard.
