Dell Inc surpassed rival Hewlett Packard Inc to become the second-biggest PC seller in the Asia Pacific region for the first time in the second quarter of this year, mainly boosted by rapid growth in China, India and Japan, China Daily reported. Dell, which posted a 51 percent drop in net profits globally in the second quarter, said the Asia-Pacific region is still a "highlight" for the company. The US-based firm has replaced HP as the region's No. 2 PC vendor behind Lenovo, said Stephen Felice, Dell's Asia-Pacific and Japan president, citing data from IDC, a well-recognized IT research firm. From April to June, Dell's market share in the Asia-Pacific region (including Japan) was 11.1 percent, compared with 10.0 percent for the previous quarter. Rival HP's market share dropped 0.1 percentage points quarter-on-quarter to 10.7 percent. Lenovo's market share, however, jumped to 16.7 percent from 13.2 percent in the first quarter. "Lenovo works well in China, but it is losing money in other regions throughout the Asia-Pacific," said the paper, quoted Felice  as saying.
