Foreign bank cards at risk of losing China business
As China UnionPay awaits approval of its operations standard by the central bank, prospects are rife that China UnionPay would become the national standard. If this happens, multicurrency bankcards issued by joint ventures between local commercial banks and international card networks like Visa and Mastercard would need to withdraw from the China market.
