A court in Dongguan, Guangdong province Wednesday adjourned hearing a case filed by Microsoft Corp against a local Internet café over copyright issues after the software giant increased its claim of damages by ¥1 million to ¥1.6 million ($1 = ¥6.8). The case involves unauthorized installation by Tonecan Network Communications Co, the defendant, of Windows and other related software on its computers. Should Tonecan lose the lawsuit, it would mean all Chinese Internet cafes were supposed to compensate Microsoft up to ¥10 billion, an industry expert has argued based on the original claim of ¥600,000.
