Honda Motors Co. and Toyota Motors Corp. each plan to bolster production at their Guangzhou plants as joint ventures with local companies, the Wall Street Journal reported. Honda Automobile (China) Co., which manufactures and exports to Europe the Jazz subcompact will begin a night shift starting next April. Daily output at the plant will double to 200 units, with annual production set to reach 50,000 units. European sales continue to increase as the quality of the vehicles produced at the joint venture are seen as being on par with units assembled in Japan, said the paper, quoted a senior official at the firm. Separately, Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co. plans to introduce a night shift at its facility at the end of this year. With Chinese orders for the Camry sedan, which became available nationwide in June, proving brisk, it projects that sales could reach 60,000 units in 2006 instead of an earlier estimate of 48,000 units, wrote the paper, quoted a senior official.
