Huawei and Motorola launch 3G joint venture
Motorola Inc and Huawei Technologies Co Ltd are launching a joint venture to develop and market the third-generation (3G) mobile phone network system called Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), Forbes reported, citing the companies’ joint statement.
A joint research and development centre would be created in Shanghai under the agreement.
Services to be provided by the venture include UMTS solutions, radio access, circuit and packet core products and high speed packet access over a wide range of new frequency bands, said Forbes.
Motorola will contribute expertise in network design and Huawei will contribute its expertise in technology innovation, research and development, Forbes wrote.
The companies would also develop and market wireless network equipment based on faster versions of GSM, the mobile network standard dominant in Europe.
