KLM to begin flying to smaller cities
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines announced in Beijing yesterday that starting from 28 May this year it would fly a route from Amsterdam to Chengdu, the Beijing Times reports. This is reportedly the first European or American carrier to connect to a second-tier Chinese city. A KLM representative in Beijing said that the airline would fly two flights per week between the two cities, giving Chengdu its first direct flight to Europe. Previously, only Singapore Airlines has operated routes to second-tier cities; this move by KLM represents the start of a new push by foreign airlines into the Chinese interior.Link: http://www.bjt.net.cn/news.asp?newsid=136817
