At a Sino-Korean insurance conference in Beijing yesterday, a number of Korean insurance companies expressed their intention to enter the Chinese market, The Beijing News reports. Samsung Fire & Marine and Samsung Life, which last year set up independent corporations as well as a life insurance joint venture, have long-term plans in the country. The head of Hyundai Marine & Fire said that his company had already applied to China's insurance regulators for authorization to incorporate; the application is currently under review. Korean insurers mentioned the other investments their parent companies have made in China, leading industry analysts to believe that, at least for their first steps into the Chinese insurance market, Korean insurance companies would target Chinese branches of Korean companies.Link: http://economy.thebeijingnews.com/0392/2006/0217/011@161176.htm
