Makro to partner with Suning in home appliances
Supermarket chain Makro has formed a strategic partnership with electronics retailer Suning to distribute Suning electronics through its stores, China Times reports. At first, Suning's appliances and home electronics will be sold in five Beijing Makro stores due to open soon. Makro will exit the home appliance business, and Suning will move into its stores throughout China to take over electronics operations. Makro has further plans to open six to eight stores in Beijing over the next two to three years; its Suning partnership will apply to future stores as well as those presently in operation. For its part, Suning is looking for a route to rapid expansion, and it sees this deal as an opportunity to make inroads into the Beijing and Tianjin markets.Makro seeks to open an additional 30 warehouse-style stores of over 10,000 square meters in area within the next five years throughout China, and it wants to bring its annual sales in the country above 10 billion yuan.Link: http://www.chinatimes.cc/news/list.asp?id=49584http://dycj.ynet.com/article.jsp?oid=8050877
