Mazda may miss China sales objective
Mazda Motor Corp. is unlikely to achieve its China sales target this year because of fierce competition and the suspension of production for a new model, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The spokesman made the comment after Mazda, the Japanese affiliate of Ford Motor Co., said its vehicle sales in China from January through September fell 9.2 percent from a year earlier to 89,932. But in September, sales in the country rose 66 percent from a year earlier to 11,995 units, said the paper, quoted the company’s spokesman.
Mazda said in January it was aiming for sales growth of more than 10 percent in China this year. It sold 133,778 Mazda brand vehicles in China in 2005, up 51 percent from the 88,462 units it sold in 2004, which was a 15 percent rise from the previous year, according to the spokesman.
