China's cyber population amounted to 591 million as of the end of June 2013, including 464 million accessing the Internet with mobile devices, according to the China Internet Network Information Center.
The number of all netizens increased by 26.56 million from six months earlier, while the number of mobile netizens increased by 43.79 million from six month earlier. As many as 70% of the new netizens used mobile devices to surf the web thanks to wider 3G network coverage and more innovative mobile apps.
497 million netizens were using instant messaging apps as of the end of June 2013, an increase of 29.31 million from six months earlier. Of them, 397 million used instant messaging apps for mobile devices, an increase of 45.2 million from six months earlier.
The numbers of people who used mobile devices to access online music, video, gaming and reading were up 14%, 18.9%, 15.7% and 12% respectively from the end of 2012.
The number of people who used mobile devices for online shopping and banking were up 3.3% and 2.7% respectively from the end of 2012.
