No Olympic adVantage for kitchen appliance sponsor
There was a strange report carried on China Business Net today about a 2008 Beijing Olympics sponsor complaining that the company’s sponsorship had not translated into better returns. The company concerned, Vantage, is the official kichen appliance provider of the games. However, a 40% increase in its marketing costs in 2007 due largely to the sponsorship was matched by a 40% fall in the company's net profit, according to President Huang Qijun.I don’t know who takes care of the company’s media and marketing but, judging by the look of its English-language website, it might be better for the company to reconsider how it puts its sponsorship and marketing budget to work, rather than slagging off the properties it sponsors.
