Panda, Konka TVs locked out of Suning over energy efficiency

Electronics retailer Suning has blocked the sales of certain television products from Panda Electronics and Konka at its more than 300 locations nationwide, China Business News reports. The affected products include 6 CRT models from Panda and one 42-inch plasma display from Konka. Suning said that the move was spurred by national energy-saving regulations that go into effect 1 March; the regulations require televisions to draw no more than 9 watts while turned off, and to have an energy efficiency index of no more than 1.5. By 2009, these numbers drop to 5 watts and 1.0. When the regulations were announced last year, 20% of the television models in production were eliminated due to poor efficiency. Konka said that Suning had misinterpreted the regulations, which are intended to apply only to CRTs. Suning, however, pointed to its own, stricter regulations governing energy efficiency in flat-panel displays.Link: http://dycj.ynet.com/article.jsp?oid=7854091
