In a company announcement today, RIM said that it will work with China Mobile, the country’s largest mobile operator, to initially focus on supporting multinational corporations with operations in China. China Mobile will offer BlackBerry service across China and provide SIM cards to support the Canadian company’s BlackBerry service.   China Mobile will use its GPRS network to enable corporate customers to get BlackBerry wireless access to email, phone, organizer, and the Internet.   A specific timeline for launch has yet to be released, but RIM said it will be soon.   Hopefully the wait won’t be as long as RIM’s. Research in Motion first announced its plans to enter the China market in 2002. It signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China Mobile in 2004, but still had to go through testing and delays before finally seeing its plans come into fruition early this month.   The entry couldn’t come any sooner, as BlackBerry plans to move in on a copycat version, the RedBerry. Released in January this year by China Unicom, China’s second largest mobile operator, it features the same basic push-mail services as BlackBerry for much cheaper.   Both the RedBerry and BlackBerry automatically send e-mails to customers’ phones as soon as a new message arrives, but RedBerry uses CDMA digital cellphones already sold on the market by China Unicom.   NASDAQ-listed RIM was founded in 1984 in Waterloo, Ontario, with offices in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
