Samsung puts another US$100 million into Chinese shipbuilding
Samsung Heavy Industries announced yesterday that it will invest another US$100 million into shipbuilding enterprises in China, China Business News reports. The facility, Samsung's second in China, will be located in Rongcheng, Shandong Province, and will go into production in January, 2008, with a capacity of 100,000 tons worth of hull parts annually. Samsung chose to locate in China, it said, because base costs on hull-building are 40% below those in Korea. Assembly will still take place in Korea, however. Samsung's previous China-based facility in Ningbo was established in 1999, with total investment of US$170 million to date.Link: http://dycj.ynet.com/article.jsp?oid=7961900
