Shanghai Industrial to invest in water-supply project
Shanghai Industrial Holdings will invest 675 million yuan (84.38 million US dollars) to launch a water-supply project in Heilongjiang province, as part of the efforts to strengthen its water-realted business, The Standard reported.
"We see high potential in this project as Sui Fen He City now faces water shortages, with only 30,000 tons of daily water supply," said The Standard, quoting Wang Xiaodong, managing director of General Water of China, as saying.
Construction is scheduled to start this year and the project is due for completion in 2009. Water supply capacity will reach 178,900 tons daily, which could help meet the demands of the city's population of between 300,000 and 400,000, Wang said.
Shanghai Industrial entered the water supply and sewage treatment business in 2003 by establishing General Water of China.
Including the Sui Fen He City water project, the company now operates 13 water-related projects in the mainland. Total cumulative investment in these is estimated at 4.5 billion yuan (562.5 million US dollars).
