Earthquake-hit Sichuan province in China's west registered a 32.5% gain for its manufacturing sector in May, the provincial statistics bureau said Monday. The rate, 14.6 percentage points faster than in April, placed the province at the top position nationwide as the national average came out 23.6 percentage points behind. For the 5 months through May 2009, Sichuan's industrial output rose 20.7% from the same period last year, which was 14.4 percentage points faster than the national average; fixed-asset investment soared 86.3% to ¥426.4 billion.
