TCL tops Samsung, Sony
TCL announced that in 2005, it had sold 23 million televisions, topping Samsung and Sony, which sold 14 million and 13 million units, respectively, National Business Daily reports. It also reported that production of flat-panel TVs had topped 6 million; it joins Samsung, Sony, Sharp, and Philips, as a member of the 6-million club. Separately, Xoceco said that its 1.3 billion yuan flat-panel facility with an annual capacity of 8 to 10 million sets would go into operation within two years. TCL recently joined with Konka, Skyworth, and Changhong to establish a joint venture in Shenzhen to accelerate the development of domestically-produced flat panel components.
