Reuters via the China Daily reports that for the first time a Chinese Company has been fined for sending bulk mail aka spam.  Although this is a positive development, considering how small the fine was, a whopping 5000RMB ($630) it seems like such a small fine would unlikely deter spammers.  If anything it might give some spammers the confidence to really start cranking out the spam considering how low the potential fines would be.Not to mention if I was a serious spammer in America I would be on the first plane to China considering that a Florida Spammer was fined $11.2 billion dollars!  I guess the lesson here is outsourcing is truly cheaper. Seriously though the article does mention some eye popping statistics.  According to a government official (and we all know how reliable they are) in 2005, 50 billion spam messages were sent which accounted for 60% of the total emails sent last year. Yes, that is right, supposedly 60% OF ALL EMAILS IN CHINA ARE SPAM.  But according to my math that equals only 1.2 spam  messages a day per chinese netizen which would actually be a quite welcome number of spam messages to my inbox in comparison to what I get now.
