China has reviewed a development plan to make Tianjin the core economic centre of northern China, the China Securities Journal reported.   According to the State Council, Tianjin city’s planning has to accommodate and coordinate with the regional planning of Tianjin-Beijing-Bohai area, strengthening regional infrastructure and optimizing resources as well as facilities. Coordination with Beijing is particularly important in order to raise the regional functionality as a services provider in the north. Tianjing should also act as the centre of the region where such neighbouring areas as Benhai, Wuqing, Jinhai and Ninghe are developed at a rapid pace.   The State Council also agrees with the city’s objectives of population and construction/land control. By 2020, Tianjin’s population would be limited to around 13,500,000.   Construction of infrastructure includes the harbour, an airport, expressways and a high-speed railway, which should be conducted according to the plan, which aims to strengthen regional cooperation between different cities in the Bohai area and communication between the north and the east.   The State Council attaches special importance to the urban planning around the Benhai area, which is considered to be the gateway to the Bohai area.
