Top five web companies pay 100 million RMB in personal taxes
The Beijing
Times reports that China's
five top web portals have paid 100 million yuan (US$12.3 million) in personal
income tax this year. Sina, Sohu, Netease, Baidu, and Tecent paid local taxes
to Beijing's
Haidian district amounting to 223 million yuan (US$27.5 million), up 16.28
million yuan over last year. The large amount of personal income tax, which
reached 105 million yuan, signifies the rising worth of tech workers in Beijing's Haidian
district. The Haidian tax office says that starting in 2002, the district's
Internet companies have progressed through the "technology year,"
"traffic year," and "branding year," to reach 2005's
"revenue year."
