Toyota Motor Inc, the world’s largest automaker by sales and production, said Wednesday it will spend $689 million establishing a wholly owned research and development center in Changshu, Jiangsu province. The facility will cover more than 2.3 million m2 including a 74,000m2 for test-driving. Part of it is expected to start working in the spring of 2011. In the long run, the R&D body will canvass Chinese customers’ view about their requirements, assess imported cars, develop fuel-efficient cars and engines specific for China and offer training programs.
