Valin seeks outside investor
The Valin Iron & Steel Group is seeking a foreign strategic investor for its unlisted steel tube business, China Business Daily
reports. The group, which in September started a restructuring of its
steel tube business that will be completed by year-end, is looking for
an investor to bring not only financing but technological expertise as
well. According to Wang Jun, the deputy general manager of the listed
Valin Steel Tube & Wire Company, this goal leaves Mittal, which
recently acquired 36.673% of the listed company, out of consideration.
Wang said that Valin had already started its search for financing, and
it has been in close contact with a well-known international steel tube
company. Valin is taking a different tack toward going public from that
used by other steel giants Baosteel and Wuhan Iron & Steel; by
restructuring step by step it avoids problems and pressures resulting
from listing the entire company all at once.
