The World Gold Council, an association of the world's leading gold producers, has started digging deep into China’s second-tier cities to boost gold jewellery sales, the China Securities Journal reported. The London-based association has set up a marketing base in Chengdu, the capital of southwestern China’s Sichuan province, as a key city for boosting sales of its members gold products. It said it would also make its products available in more Chinese cities. In 2003 the council kicked off its efforts to market its products in China with regular launches of new collections in five cities – Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou (capital of southern China’s Guangdong province), Shenyang (capital of northeastern China’s Liaoning province), and Hangzhou (capital of eastern China’s Zhejiang province).
