The government of Xiamen, a port city in southeastern China's Fujian province, has vowed to help its software sector grow to 10% of gross domestic product in 3 to 5 years, Ding Guoyan, a senior official said at an industry meeting over the weekend. The city's software earnings, mainly from integrated circuit design, embedded software development and software outsourcing, totaled ¥14.5 billion, making up 4% of its GDP in 2008. The figure is expected to hit ¥18 billion this year.
