Yili, Mengniu top 10 billion RMB in sales

The Inner Mongolia Yili Group had income passing 10 billion yuan for the first time in 2005, China Business News reports. Its annual report puts 2005 revenue at 12.175 billion yuan, an increase of 39.38% from 2004. Profit was also up, rising 29.75% to 492 million yuan. Yili becomes the first Chinese dairy to see more than 10 billion yuan in annual income. Its biggest competitor, Mengniu, has not yet released its annual report, but while that dairy may also report more than 10 billion yuan in income, Wang Dingmian, head of the Guangdong Dairy Association, says that Mengniu is unlikely to have made much more than 11 billion yuan in sales last year. That would let Yili maintain its position at the top of the sector. Other dairies have had troubles, particularly Bright Dairy, which had problems last year with remarked milk products. According to Wang Dingmian, Yili should remain at the top for the next year or two, since it has a deeper product line than Mengniu, which currently outmatches Yili on the promotion side of things.Yili: 600887.SHMengniu: 2319.HKLink: http://dycj.ynet.com/article.jsp?oid=7647556
