Zhongsou, Yahoo in unfair competition flap
Chinese search engine Zhongsou has accused
Yahoo of unfair competition, The Beijing
News reports. Zhongsou provides a browser add-on search bar called
"Net Pig," and it claims that Yahoo's competing search bar deletes
Zhongsou's software from users' machines. The company says that standard
practice is for competing search bars to cover up older installations rather
than forcibly deleting them. Yahoo says that it had not received any
notification, and that it was waiting for Zhongsou to provide evidence of its
claims. In 2003, Baidu and 3721 (now owned by Yahoo China) were involved in a legal dispute over browser add-ons that prevented users from downloading software from
competitors' sites.
