China’s third largest portal Sohu.com said it would let its 8 million blog users upload and share videos, the China Business News reported. The portal currently just allows text and audio clips to be uploaded. The company is hoping to emulate Sina.com – China’s top portal and blog site – which has collaborated with China Telecom – China’s largest broadband provider – to create a platform for video sharing called Sina-Vnet Podcast. Over 76 million netizens in China watched or uploaded video clips to video-sharing sites in 2006, the Internet Society of China said. It also predicted the number of video-sharing users will surge 40% each year over the coming three years.
