As foreign-funded banks accelerate their penetration into the SME financing segment in order to compete with state-owned commercial banks, smaller Chinese commercial banks are seeking to do the same in order to secure a more extensive client base.

Financing has always been a difficult issue to solve for mid- and small size companies. Since there are no eligible fixed assets for bank credit, small companies have great difficulty securing financial support from banks. With no available financing, many are forced to give up on commercial opportunities.

Shenzhen Development Bank said on Friday it would cooperate with GE Consumer Finance, a unit of General Electric, to issue credit cards, Reuters reported.
