Guangzhou is the capital and largest city in Guangdong, China's largest provincial economy. It is also one of the nation's top four first-tier cities along with Shanghai, Beijing and Shenzhen and therefore a leading manufacturing and commercial hub. With a population of 12.7 million, the city's GDP amounted to ¥1.06 trillion ($168.3 billion) in 2010, making it the third city after Shanghai and Beijing to crack the ¥1 trillion mark. The most important annual event in Guangzhou is the China Import and Export Fair, commonly known as the Canton Fair, which is organized by the Ministry of Commerce to promote China's foreign trade.
