Guiyang is the capital and largest city in Guizhou province, one of the most impoverished regions in China. With a population of over 4.3 million, the city's GDP grew 15.9% to RMB170 billion in 2012. Guiyang is a major bauxite and aluminum producer, and a major manufacturer of mining devices, chemicals and aerospace engines in the province.
