The China Iron and Steel Association has announced the elimination of export rebates on 83 steel products, and lowered the rate on 76 products beginning April 15, apparently part of a strategy to “rein in [China’s] surging trade surplus.”

Export tax reimbursements will soon be reduced or lifted altogether, stimulating consolidation in the textile, home appliance, and nonferrous metal industries.

Recent reports suggest that China's three state-owned airlines, Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines, may merge to form a holdings corporation that will replace their separate operations.  This could serve as the first move towards a reorganization of the civil aviation sector.  Is China ready for such a move?
